Ever since I was born I have been going down to Long Beach Island (LBI). It is an island on the Jersey Shore. My grandparents have had the house for 50 years and its become tradition that our whole extended family goes down during the summer. The house is the one artifact that has always been there. It represents more than just a house, it represents family, past experiences, and vivid memories.
Every single person in my family has played a major role in my life. Growing up going to LBI every summer with my family is something I am privileged enough to have. My family means everything to me and this LBI house has been the artifact that brings everyone together. Waking up in the house to the loud coffee grinder to BBQs on the porch to charades in the living room, this house means everything to me and I do not know where I would be with out it. |
One specific artifact at my beach house has been the outdoor shower. Everyone uses it and everyone has contributed to it. It has been a part of the house since it was built. After we come back from the beach we wash our feet off in the shower before going into the house. The shower survived Hurricane Sandy when the kayaks didn't (they probably washed away and are now in North Carolina.) After Sandy we fixed up the slightly damaged shower, and my sister and cousin, Aliza and Hannah took it upon themselves to brighten up the shower with a little art. The were very determined and got acrylic paint and painted a bunch of ocean creatures. The outdoor shower now looks more lively than ever.
