Growing up around the corner from my cousins is certainly an atypical experience for anyone. My cousin Ben is like a brother to me. Originally living in the city, to moving around the corner from each other in the small town of Montclair is something I cherish every day. In high school it was a truly different experience, having practically another best friend looking out for you. He constantly was able to give me advice where needed throughout high school. For example, what classes to take, good teachers I would want to have, and just advice on how to survive high school. Going to family events was also a much anticipated event knowing that I would be there with my cousin.
My Passover Seder takes place at the Sabin’s house and is notorious for being an extremely long service. My Uncle Jay leads the service and family members from all over join us. Having my cousin Ben there as well as my other cousins is indescribable. It alleviates so much of the tension that could arise and the boredom that comes with those long family events. Having Ben and Aliza truly completes my family and something I couldn’t live without. We went on vacations every February to visit our grandparents in Florida. This will always be a lasting memory of mine having such a great time with my family. Having someone like a best friend on vacation is something everyone should experience. You always have someone to do an activity with and hang out with that just also happens to be your family member. Having all of my cousins together growing up will always be an experience that I will cherish. It has helped me grow and become who I am today. Molding the way I act, think, and even speak. I am truly grateful for our parents giving us the opportunity to grow up so close to each other I wouldn’t trade for anything else. |
